Link accounts

Connect your Discord account to your Minecraft name for role sync, mentions from the game and /profile.

A link tells the bot which Discord account belongs to which Minecraft player. Role sync, @Name mentions from the game chat and /profile without a name all rely on it. A Minecraft server has to be connected to the Discord server through chat sync.

Set up

  1. Run /link start in Discord. The bot shows you a code that only you can see. It's valid for ten minutes.
  2. Join the Minecraft server and enter the code:
/mcsync link K7M2QX

If the server doesn't know /mcsync (an older version, or Forge before Minecraft 1.19), type !link K7M2QX into the chat instead.

  1. The game chat shows "MC-Sync: your account is linked." In Discord you get a direct message with your Minecraft name.

/link show tells you at any time which name you're linked to.

The link only applies on the Discord server where you ran /link start. If you're on several Discord servers, link on each of them.

  • Yourself: /link remove.
  • In the dashboard: "Linked accounts" → "Unlink" next to the person → "Yes, unlink".

A new link replaces the old one. If you switch to another Minecraft account, run /link start again and enter the code with the new account.

In the dashboard

"Linked accounts" lists every link on this Discord server, searchable by Minecraft and Discord name. Each entry shows since when it's linked, when the player was last on the server and which role sync rules apply to them.

Anyone with dashboard access can view the list. Unlinking needs the "Settings" permission, see Permissions.

Problems

Nothing happens in the game

  • Enter the code on a Minecraft server that's connected to the same Discord server where you ran /link start.
  • The "Active" switch under "Connection & chat" must be on.

"That code is unknown or has expired"

A code is valid for ten minutes and works once. Running /link start again cancels the previous code. Get a new one.

"Write !link followed by the code from Discord"

The code has six characters. Case doesn't matter, and spaces and hyphens are ignored. Codes never contain the letters O and I or the digits 0 and 1, so check for typos.

/link start says no Minecraft server is connected

Set up chat sync first. Without it there's no chat for the code to arrive in.

The link stopped working after a name change

For Java accounts the bot picks up the new name on its own. Bedrock accounts and servers in offline mode have no fixed ID, so link again with /link start there.

Background: who sees the code

Nobody but you sees /mcsync link. The !link line, on the other hand, goes to the bot like any chat line. The bot takes it out before anything reaches the Discord channel, even when the code is wrong. Other players in the game still see the line, and it's in the server log. Once redeemed, the code is worthless.

The reply in the game goes to every player on the server. That's why it contains neither a name nor the code.
