Permissions

Who can use which command in Discord, who can change what in the dashboard, and where to look up who did what.

Permissions live in three places. Discord decides who can use a command of the bot. The dashboard has its own access rights per role. The Minecraft server decides on its own which commands from Discord it accepts.

Discord commands

Every command in the command reference carries one of these labels:

LabelMeaning
Administrators onlyDiscord hides the command from everyone without the "Administrator" permission.
Requires "Manage Server"Discord hides the command from everyone without "Manage Server".
Can be granted per roleVisible to everyone. You decide in the bot who may use it.
Discord servers onlyNot available in direct messages.
Works in DMs tooInstalled as a user app, it works anywhere, even where the bot isn't a member.

You can change these defaults in Discord under "Server Settings" → "Integrations" on the bot, per command for single roles or members.

Some commands have their own rules:

CommandWho may use it
/linkEveryone, and only for their own account
/role-syncAdministrators
/server-command runAdministrators and roles with a grant
/server-command permissionAdministrators

Grants for /server-command are set in the dashboard under "Permissions" or with /server-command permission add role: @Moderator commands: say, kick. More under Commands from Discord.

Dashboard

Full access goes to whoever owns the Discord server or has "Administrator" or "Manage Server" there. Other roles get single permissions:

  1. In the dashboard, open "Access" under "Administration".
  2. Click "Add role" and pick the role.
  3. Tick the boxes and click "Save".
PermissionAllows
"View"Open the server in the dashboard and read every section. Every other permission includes it.
"Console"Run commands on the Minecraft server, manage schedules and buttons
"Whitelist"Add and remove names
"Settings"Change servers, connections, chat format and notices, unlink accounts
"Displays"Manage live displays and voice channels
"Permissions"Role sync, command grants and "Access"
"Tokens"Create, regenerate and set expiry for tokens. This allows connecting a Minecraft server.

Only people with the matching permission see the "Console" tab and the "Access" section. Anyone with "View" can read every other section; the bot checks changes when they're saved. Access rights only add permissions: anyone with "Manage Server" keeps full access.

Minecraft server

PermissionDefaultAllows
mcsync.adminOperators/mcsync status and /mcsync reload
noneall players/mcsync toggle and /mcsync link
lp group moderator permission set mcsync.admin true

Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge have no permission node. There, status and reload are open to everyone who may use /kick, and to the server console.

Which commands from Discord, role sync or the dashboard the server runs isn't a permission. It's set with commands.mode in the config.

Change log

The "Change log" under "Administration" records every change made in the dashboard: who, when, what, and whether it was done or denied. That includes console commands, regenerated tokens, removed links and access attempts without permission.

  • Filter with "Filter by action", "From", "To" and the search for a name or subject.
  • "Export CSV" downloads the filtered result, up to 5000 entries.
  • Entries are kept for 90 days.
  • Everyone with dashboard access can read it.

Commands that run on the Minecraft server also go to the command log in Discord, rejected ones included. Set its channel with /notices channel purpose: commands.

Problems

A command is missing in Discord

Discord hides commands you don't have the permission for. Check the label in the command reference and the settings under "Integrations".

My Discord server isn't in the dashboard

You need "Manage Server" or a role listed under "Access". New permissions apply within a minute.

"Access denied" in the change log

Someone tried to change something without the matching permission. The entry shows who it was and which permission was missing. If the attempt was intended, give that permission to the role under "Access".
