Whitelist

Manage your Minecraft server's whitelist from Discord and the dashboard, with a channel where players submit their own name.

In a whitelist channel, players post their Minecraft name; the bot checks it and adds it on the server. In the dashboard you see every entry and add or remove names yourself. The server has to be connected, the same way as for chat sync.

Set up

  1. Connect the server as described under Chat sync.
  2. Turn the whitelist on on the Minecraft server: whitelist on in the server console. This can't be done from Discord.
  3. Create the whitelist channel:
  1. In the dashboard, open "Servers", then your server and the "Whitelist" tab.
  2. Under "Whitelist channels" at the bottom, pick the channel and click "Add channel".
  3. The channel starts as "Look up only". Click "Edit", set "Mode" to "Look up and add" and click "Save".
  1. Post a name in the channel to test it, for example Notch. The bot replaces the message with a confirmation.

The bot needs "Send Messages", "Embed Links" and "Manage Messages" in the channel. Without the last one, submitted names and rejections stay in the channel.

In the channel

  • Add: post the name, Notch. Bedrock players post their name with the Floodgate prefix, for example .Notch.
  • Remove: -Notch. Whoever added the name can do this, and so can anyone with "Manage Server".
  • Rejections, such as an unknown name, disappear after ten seconds together with the message that caused them.

When someone leaves the Discord server, the bot removes the names that person added and says so in the channel.

In the dashboard

A server's "Whitelist" tab lists every entry, including ones added directly on the server, and who submitted each name.

  • "Add player" adds a name, "Remove" takes it off.
  • "Paste a list" adds many names at once, one per line.
  • Under "Applications" you decide on applications, see below.

With two or more servers, you can group them under "Servers" → "Whitelist groups". Servers in a group share one whitelist.

applicationsApplications with a button and form instead of names in the channel

/whitelist-channel list shows all whitelist channels, /whitelist-channel remove channel: #whitelist removes one.

Applications

With /whitelist-channel add channel: #whitelist applications: True, the channel gets an "Apply" button. Players enter their name in a form, the bot checks it and posts the application in the channel with "Approve" and "Deny".

  • In Discord, anyone with "Manage Server" can decide. In the dashboard you need the "Whitelist" right.
  • The name only goes on the whitelist after "Approve". Each person has at most one open application.
  • The bot still handles names that someone posts directly in the channel. Take "Send Messages" away from players there if only applications should count.

Problems

"No connection to a Minecraft server"

The channel can't find a server. Connect one, or pick it under "Minecraft server" or with server.

"Not added to the whitelist"

The Minecraft server rejected whitelist add. Check whether commands.mode is set to off. From whitelist up the command is allowed, see Commands from Discord.

"Player not found"

Mojang doesn't know that Java name. Usually it's a typo. Bedrock players need the prefix in front of their name, otherwise the bot checks it as a Java name.

A Bedrock name with a space can't be added

A Minecraft command can't add a name with a space. Add the player directly on the server or turn on replace-spaces in Floodgate.

Players join without being on the whitelist

The whitelist is off on the server. Run whitelist on in the server console.

The bot rejects the channel

The channel already carries a server's chat or is set for notices. Use a channel of its own.
