Watch servers

Get notified by direct message, email, webhook or push when a Minecraft server stops responding. Works for servers without the plugin too.

A watch pings a server address every minute and notifies you when the server stops responding. It works with any reachable Java or Bedrock server, without the plugin and without a Discord server of your own. All you need is a Discord login; the watch belongs to your account.

Set up

  1. Open the dashboard and click "Set up a watch" at the top, next to the server picker.
  2. Under "Watched servers", click "Add a server".
  3. Enter the "Server address", for example play.example.eu, and click "Add a server".
  4. Under "Notify via", your direct message is already there. Add more routes with "Add email", "Add webhook" or "Add this browser".
  5. Click "Edit" on a route, then "Send test".

A new server reports "Server stopped answering" and "Server is back", after a five-minute grace period. An email address only gets notifications once you've opened the link in the confirmation email.

RouteNote
Direct messageThere from the start. The bot messages you on Discord.

WebhookDiscord, Slack, ntfy, Gotify or JSON for your own system. https only.
PushA notification in this browser. On iPhone and iPad the site has to be on the home screen.

Up to ten routes per account. With "Delay", a route only gets an outage if it's still going after 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. If it's resolved before then, nothing arrives there. For example: push at once, email after 15 minutes. A route with a delay only gets outages, no other notifications.

Quiet hours

Notifications during "Quiet hours" arrive once they're over. Outages and the all-clear that follows come at once: server stopped answering, chat sync down, token leaked publicly. The times use your time zone, which the dashboard takes from your browser.

"Sent notifications" lists the latest notifications, including waiting and failed ones.

Problems

No notification arrived

  • Look under "Sent notifications". If it's waiting, quiet hours or a delay are running.
  • If the server was down for less than the grace period, there's no notification.
  • A route marked "Paused: too many failures in a row" failed ten times. Check the address or URL and add it again.

The direct message doesn't arrive

Discord only delivers it if you allow direct messages from server members in your Discord settings. The other routes aren't affected.

The server shows "Not responding" while it's running

Not every domain is a server address: hypixel.net doesn't respond, mc.hypixel.net does. Use the address you join with in the game. If the address runs Bedrock, pick the "Edition" when you add it.

The confirmation email expired

The link is valid for three days and works once. Open the route with "Edit" and click "Resend confirmation".

"Add this browser" doesn't work

Push usually fails in private windows. Use a normal window. On iPhone and iPad, first add the site via Share → "Add to Home Screen" and open it from there.

The plugin events are greyed out

Pick a connected server under "Minecraft server". You can only choose servers on Discord servers you manage.

Background: watches and notices in a channel

A watch queries the public address, like a player would. A server whose plugin still talks to the bot while its port is closed counts as down here.

Notices are posted by the bot into a Discord channel, for everyone who reads it. A watch notifies only you and needs no permissions on any Discord server.
